Johnston Student Center provides numerous spaces and services for the university community, whether you need a drink to quench your thirst, grab a bite to eat before your next class, withdrawal some money to last throughout the week, add cash to your hokie passport. JSC also has plenty of space on the third floor for relaxing and is a great place to study since JSC is equipped with wireless Internet access.
Subway and Seattle’s Best Coffee in Johnston Student Center offer fresh food alternatives for students, faculty, and staff. The businesses moved into the renovated second floor of Johnston at the beginning of the fall ’09 semester and have been doing a brisk business ever since. Customer counts are topping 4,000 per week for Subway, while Seattle’s best serves more than 2,000 customers each week. The Subway location is unique in the Blacksburg area because it opens at 7 a.m. and serves a full breakfast menu, including Thomas’ bagels and English muffins as well as Seattle’s Best coffee. The campus locations are the sixteenth Subway franchise for owners Scott Hillyard and Melanie Morris and their first Seattle’s Best.
Johnston Student Center was designed and built in 1990 as a student services facility to create a home-away-from-home for students. Located adjacent to Burruss and Pamplin Halls on the north end of campus, Johnston is accessible to both administrative and academic buildings. Johnston is 24,500 square feet. In addition to classroom space and an information desk on the first floor, Subway and Seattle’s Best Coffee Shop on the second floor. Johnston is also equipped with wireless Internet access and has plenty of space on the third floor for relaxing and studying. Johnston Student Center also provides multiple meeting places that can be reserved for private functions. We also offer a prayer & spiritual reflection room on our 3rd floor in the back of room 304. This space can be accessed through our elevator or by walking through room 304 if there are no reservations going on.
